New Examination System - JK Directorate of School Education

The JK Directorate of School Education has implemented a revised evaluation system to ensure continuous and comprehensive assessment of students throughout the academic year.

1. School-Based Assessment (SBA)

  • Covers 20% of the total marks in each subject.

  • Conducted at the school level by the concerned subject teachers.

  • Focuses on continuous assessment through:

    • Class tests

    • Assignments

    • Projects

    • Oral assessments

    • Attendance & participation

  • Conducted at regular intervals throughout the academic session.

  • Promotes a stress-free learning environment and encourages regular study habits.

  • Marks are submitted to the respective Zonal Education Office as part of final results.

2. Term-End / Final Examination

  • Accounts for 80% of the total marks in each subject.

  • Conducted at the end of the academic session as per the calendar issued by the Directorate.

  • Set and evaluated by external bodies or as directed by the board.

  • Emphasizes conceptual understanding, analytical skills, and proper presentation.

  • Helps evaluate the overall academic progress of the student.

  • Includes both theory and practical exams where applicable.

Key Features of the New System

  • Ensures a balanced evaluation of academic performance.

  • Reduces the pressure of a single annual examination.

  • Encourages active participation in day-to-day learning activities.

  • Promotes development of critical thinking and creativity through projects and assignments.

  • Final results are a combination of SBA (20%) and Final Exam (80%).
